Susan Boardman (280 Mountain Road, Wilton, 210-5476) by Profession of Faith. Susan has a son, Jamie (1/5/95). Her Deacon is Pam Kelley. And…

Joe Dionne (128 Drum Hill Road, Wilton, 762-7776) by Certificate of Transfer from First Presbyterian Church, New Canaan. His Deacon is (Barbara Quincy).

As a congregation, we will welcome Susan and Joe at a morning worship service in May. But this morning do greet them at coffee hour with your right hand of fellowship.

We welcome friends and visitors at worship this morning. Should this be the right time and season for you to join this family of faith, please speak with the Elder Greeter, Mike Jenkins, the Pastor or call the church office (762-5514). The next regularly scheduled Session meeting to receive new members will be Sunday, May 25,  9:30 AM in the Quiet/Meditation Room.

 

GOD’S PEOPLE HERE:  Emily Burnaman, daughter of Deborah and Buck Burnaman will undergo surgery on her arm at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts this coming Thursday, May 1. Go, Emily, go!...Our congratulations to Chris and Lauren Butler at the birth of their first child, Audrey Grace, born December 26, 2007 in New York City. Liz and Bob Butler are the proud grandparents!...We extend our Christian sympathy to Gloria Herlyn and her children—Lynn, Susan, and Bill—at the death of her husband and their father, Ted, last Monday, April 21 at Norwalk Hospital following a long struggle with lymphoma. A memorial service for Ted will be held in the Sanctuary on Friday, May 9, 11:00 AM...We hold close in prayer, Susan Nugent, mother of Kevin Nugent, who is fighting metastatic breast cancer and shingles at her home in Baltimore, Maryland…Mike Oricchio is recuperating at home from injuries sustained in a car accident last Tuesday, April 22…We extend our Christian sympathy to Karamjeet Paul at the death of his mother, Surjit Kaur Paul, from complications related to a heart attack, on Tuesday, April 22nd in Orlando, Florida.

 

STAFF NOTES:  Office Manager, Susie Gross, will be on vacation from Monday, May 5 through Monday, May 12 and will return to the office on Tuesday, May 13. Volunteers will staff the office from 9 AM to 12 noon.

 

SPRING BIBLE STUDIES

LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY is a five week study of The Lord’s Prayer, led by The Pastor. There will be two sessions each week, one on Sunday mornings 9:00 – 9:45 AM at the church, a second on Monday evenings in a member home.

            Sunday 5/11 or Monday 5/12:                         “Our Father…Hallowed be thy name.”

            Sunday, 5/18 (no Monday, 5/19):        “Thy Kingdom Come…on earth as it is in heaven.”

            Sunday, 5/25 or Monday 5/26:            “Give us this day...”

            Sunday, 6/1 or Monday 6/2:                “Forgive us…deliver us from evil.”

            Sunday, 6/8 or Monday 6/9:                “For Thine is…the glory.”

PARENTS OF 2ND GRADERS:  Second grade Sacrament Education Class will begin on Sunday, May 11, at 9:00am.  This class is not part of the Church School program.  It is offered once a year to Wilton Presbyterian second graders to help them learn more about the Presbyterian sacraments of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper.  The class culminates in a special worship service where our 2nd graders help prepare and serve communion to the congregation.  This year, the class will be held on Sundays, May 11, May 18 and June 1, from 9:00am to 9:45am.  On Sunday, June 1, at 10:00am, the class will help Elders prepare and serve communion to our church family.  If you would like to register your child for this special opportunity, please contact Youth & Children’s Activities Director, Jane Field, at 762-5514 or janefield@snet.net

ADULT EDUCATION SEMINAR: Guest Speaker Harvard Professor Dr. William Kaelin coming on May 4 to speak on Harmonizing Faith and Science. The Sunday Morning group will continue its discussion of "The Language of God" By Francis S. Collins and how Dr. Collins, one of the worlds leading geneticists and head of the Human Genome Project, wrestled with many of the issues that confront an individual attempting to reconcile belief in God with science. Dr. Kaelin will attend the 9 AM session of the Adult Ed Group and also lead a discussion on the topic after the 10 AM
service in the Lounge. 

CHURCH SCHOOL. Teacher Appreciation Party, May 1st, “Uno de Mayo Fiesta. On May 1st   at 6:30 pm JCCEC, our Church School Committee, is hosting a special appreciation party for everyone who has taught Church School anytime during the year.  Our Church School teachers are numero uno so we want to thank them with an evening of fun, fellowship, Mexican appetizers, sangria, and no lessons to be taught.  It will be a time to just enjoy each other’s company.  If you have taught Church School this year, come join us in the Lower Core at 6:30 on Thursday, May 1stSpring Mission Project: On April 27th all of the Church School classes will be busy making their creation for our annual Spring Mission Project.  Each class will create a small gift which will be gathered together into a decorated basket to be delivered after church on May 4th to friends within our two churches. This project is a wonderful way for our children to reach out and connect with others in our church community.  Children can go with their families to deliver these spring gift baskets.  Please volunteer to deliver…Collecting After School Snacks for the Carver Center: The George Washington Carver Community Center needs individually wrapped snacks for its after school educational and recreational programs. Involve your children in choosing such treats as individually wrapped gold fish, cookies, rice krispie treats, chips, pretzels, juices, or other favorites.  Just remember: no nuts!  Bring donations to the Church School office box until Sunday, May 11th.

 

SPRING MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

 

AMERICARES HOMEFRONT WORK TEAM - May 3: We have a home fix-up project in Wilton this year and need volunteers to help clean up the yard and house, paint, tile a bathroom and do minor carpentry.  Due to limited space in the house, we will work 2 shifts. Can you give us 3-1/2 hours in the morning or afternoon?  If you are able to help, please sign up on the poster in the back of the church.  Questions?  Contact Sonny Kern at 834-7654 or sonnykern@aol.com.

 

MATE MISSION TRIP, Saturday, June 21 – Thursday/Friday, June 26/27, 2008 Farmington, Maine: Beginning in the summer of 1982—and each summer thereafter—a group of Wilton Presbyterians and friends have spent a week in and around Farmington, Maine helping to improve the living conditions of people living there by rehabilitating their homes. This is done through the ministry of Mission At The Eastward (M.A.T.E.). WPC will be sponsoring its 27th M.A.T.E. trip in 2007 during the week of June 21 through June 27. Carpentry skills are NOT a requirement to participate. Mark your calendars for this mission trip. Sarah and Mark Carta are the co-leaders.
