INVITATION TO NEW MEMBERS. We welcome friends and visitors at worship this morning. Should this be the right time and season for you to join this family of faith, please speak with the Elder Greeter, Mike Jenkins, the Pastor or call the church office (762-5514). The next regularly scheduled Session meeting to receive new members will be next Sunday, April 27,  9:30 AM in the Quiet/Meditation Room.

 

GOD’S PEOPLE HERE:  Carol Kern’s brother, Mike, underwent successful lung surgery on April 14 in Birmingham, Alabama Former member, Harry Henriques, III, died Friday morning, April 11, in Portland, OR. Harry's ashes will be interred in the Barlow/Henriques plot in Scotch Plains, NJ on April 24…Ted Herlyn has been a patient this week at Norwalk Hospital, continuing his fight with lymphoma…Jim Wells, a former member of WPC now living in Southbury, CT, was taken to Danbury Hospital last Tuesday with pneumonia. In Jim’s behalf, his wife, Nancy, is glad to receive cards and/or calls at home (217 Applewood, Southbury, CT 01488; 203-264-1276)…Mary Grace Williams, Rector of St. Matthew’s Church, underwent outpatient knee surgery at Norwalk Hospital on Thursday.

 

STAFF NOTES:  Pastor David Graybill will be away all day this Thursday, April 24, helping chaperone a Middlebrook field trip to Ellis Island.

 

A GIRLFRIEND’S GUIDE TO THE BIBLE. This Bible study, for women interested in nourishing themselves and their faith, continues Friday, April 25, 10:00 AM (Lounge) or Sunday, April 27, 11:30 AM (Upper Core). The theme of these sessions is Care-fullness-Going to the Back of the Boat: Caring for others while we care for ourselves.  The remaining sessions: (5/2 or 5/4: Mindfulness-Reading and hearing God’s Word through the meditative practice of Lectio Divina). ADULT EDUCATION SPRING PROGRAM: Sunday Mornings at 9 AM in the Conference Library:  "The Language of God" By Francis S. Collins, April 27, May 4, 11. Dr. Collins, one of the world’s leading geneticists and head of the International Human Genome Project, describes his own journey from atheism to belief as he unraveled some of the mysteries of human life. The book is available on Amazon and at Border's.  Please join us even if you are only able to attend one or two sessions and don't get a chance to open the book.

 

A SPIRITUAL RETREAT:

Friday, April 25, 7:30 – 9:00 PM and Saturday, April 26, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Theme: “This I Believe” A time to reflect upon, talk together, and celebrate our personal Christian beliefs.

PARENTS OF 2ND GRADERS:  Second grade Sacrament Education Class will begin on Sunday, May 11, at 9:00am.  This class is not part of the Church School program.  It is offered once a year to Wilton Presbyterian second graders to help them learn more about the Presbyterian sacraments of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper.  The class culminates in a special worship service where our 2nd graders help prepare and serve communion to the congregation.  This year, the class will be held on Sundays, May 11, May 18 and June 1, from 9:00am to 9:45am.  On Sunday, June 1, at 10:00am, the class will help Elders prepare and serve communion to our church family.  If you would like to register your child for this special opportunity, please contact Youth & Children’s Activities Director, Jane Field, at 762-5514 or janefield@snet.net

 

A SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY will be held Sundays, 9:00 – 9:45 AM, Sundays, May 11, 18, and 30; June 1 and 8. Theme: “Lord, Teach Us To Pray: Spirituality and the Lord’s Prayer.” Led by David Graybill.

 

CHURCH IN ACTION

 

AmeriCares HomeFront Work Team - May 3: We have a home fix-up project in Wilton this year and need volunteers to help clean up the yard and house, paint, tile a bathroom and do minor carpentry.  Due to limited space in the house, we will work 2 shifts. Can you give us 3-1/2 hours in the morning or afternoon?  If you are able to help, please sign up on the poster in the back of the church.  Questions?  Contact Sonny Kern at 834-7654 or sonnykern@aol.com.

 

MATE mission trip, Saturday, June 21 – Thursday/Friday, June 26/27, 2008 Farmington, Maine: Beginning in the summer of 1982—and each summer thereafter—a group of Wilton Presbyterians and friends have spent a week in and around Farmington, Maine helping to improve the living conditions of people living there by rehabilitating their homes. This is done through the ministry of Mission At The Eastward (M.A.T.E.). WPC will be sponsoring its 27th M.A.T.E. trip in 2007 during the week of June 21 through June 27. Carpentry skills are NOT a requirement to participate. Mark your calendars for this mission trip. Sarah and Mark Carta are the co-leaders.
