INVITATION TO NEW MEMBERS. We welcome friends and visitors at worship this morning. Should this be the right time and season for you to join this family of faith, please speak with the Elder Greeter, Steve Connor, the Pastor, or call the church office (762-5514). The next regularly scheduled Session meeting to receive new members will be Sunday, February 17, 9:30 AM in the Quiet/Meditation Room.

 

FROM YOUR OUTREACH COMMITTEE: An easy way to get to know our fellow WPC'ers better is to wear our name tags!  If yours is lost, or you need another one for any reason at all, please talk to Adele MacGregor before or after worship, or at 762-9179; adelemacg@gmail.com.  If your name tag has a clip and you prefer a pin, we can cheerfully accommodate you!   Our visitors' tags are light green - please be sure to say hello!   

 

GOD’S PEOPLE HERE.  Meg Campbell gave birth to Elizabeth Myers Campbell on Saturday, January 19th at 6:32 AM at Danbury Hospital. Al and Jan Galletly are the proud grandparents and we are all the proud aunts and uncles!!!! Congratulations Campbell family!...Jane Estes celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday, January 26th. Congratulations Jane!!!...We extend our Christian sympathy to Lisa Lillie at the death of her father, David Sheffield, following lung surgery in Detroit Monday, January 14…We extend our Christian sympathy to Lisa Mannix and her husband Matthew (friends of WPC) at the death of her father, John McCormick, on Tuesday, January 8th.

 

STAFF NOTES.  Jane Field, Youth & Children’s Activities Director, is worshipping at Zion’s Hill Methodist Church this morning.

 

The Session invites interested members of the congregation to review their report, PATHS TOWARD

ENLIGHTENMENT. This Report includes a Report of the Session by Sandy Shifrin and complete copies of the three reports Session received last year: Natural Church Development Survey (prepared by Ann Philbrick, Heartwood Resources), summary of Elder-lapsed member interviews (prepared by Mike Jenkins), and a memo from Ed White (Senior Consultant, Alban Institute) following his WPC visit. Members are invited to pick up a copy in the church office.

Copies of the 2007 Annual Report are available on the table in the foyer this morning.

Child Care for Annual Meeting: Nursery – 4 year olds, in the 3 year old room downstairs; Kindergarten – 3rd grade, in the Upper Core; Grades 4-7, in the Lower Core; Eighth grade and older will attend the Annual Meeting with their parents. Children will have bagels with cream cheese or butter and other snacks. 

 

HELP NEEDED. Can you help us find the right person to be our new nursery supervisor? Do you know a nanny or an adult who is good with children who would like to work in our nursery on Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 11:30 am?  We are looking for a caring, responsible, and dependable adult to provide care for infants through 2 year olds.  Please see Sheri (834-2570) or Becky (834-0943) for more information.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR FOR A DAY! We are inviting all Presbyterian children (Grades 2 and up) to join with St. Matthew’s boys and girls choir to sing two anthems during the Festival of Children service on February 10. There will be only one rehearsal on Sunday, February 3rd following worship in the Upper Core for about 30 minutes. No need to sign up, just come! Questions? Call Sheri Richards at 834-2570.

 

CAN YOU HELP PIVOT? Pivot has some needs, and perhaps you can help:

            * used washing machines and/or dryers (ready to replace your old ones with front loading?)

            * used computers and printers (consider Pivot when you upgrade?)

            * used suits, coats, shirts (church clothes for men?)

            * assistance with grant applications -- researching grant sources and writing

TEENS GOING ON THE 16TH ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL MISSION TRIP TO WASHINGTON DC NEED YOUR HELP!  As a part of their ministry in DC, our youth hand out warm hats, gloves, mittens and scarves to folks living on the streets.  We are collecting NEW winter hats, scarves, mittens and gloves in adult sizes (very clean & gently used items are OK, too) to give away to those in need whom we meet in DC soup kitchens and homeless shelters, on the sidewalks and in the parks of DC.  Please bring your donations to the church office by noon on February 10—we are shipping everything down to DC ahead of our arrival, since our van space is already filled with luggage!  Questions?  Contact Jane Field (762-5514) or John Satula (762-7400).

This is the first of seven Wednesday evening Lenten Suppers/Bible Conversations on the theme: “Through Hardship to Hope.” Soup is provided. Bring yourself and some simple, natural foods to share with others.  If you need nursery child-care, please call the church office by 12 noon Friday, February 1st.
